Frustrated Jewelry Maker

I don’t know if any of the rest of you have this experience but It’s driving me nuts having to buy from several different vendors because not any one has what I need at the price I need it!

So I get online to buy some French hook earring findings from a vendor I use because I like the price and the product. I don’t want to checkout with only a $10 purchase and pay shipping on such a small order so I look around on their site for a few other things that I need.

Of course, they don’t have bulk silver plated chain so that’s out! So I find other things that I don’t really NEED and check out with about $50 in my cart. Then I go onto another vendor I use to find the chain. They have the chain but again, not wanting to spend $20 with $10 in shipping, I look for the ring bezels that I could use or the Swarovski crystals that I always use…nope! They either don’t have them or they are a price that I don’t want to pay. And,,,,again…I end up adding other things to my cart that aren’t really NEEDED and I end up with two orders of around $50 but only 2 things that I really needed!.. Arghhh…

Has anyone else had this experience? Thanks for listening.

Yes, K Lynn, I hear what you are saying. I’m lucky that we have several beading stores in town that I can get most of my supplies, but I also buy online. And you are right, it seems like you have to go to several places to get what you need and end up buying things you don’t need to get free shipping. I even have that same problem in town…one store for beads, another store for findings and another one for seed beads, etc.

The one online vendor I use the most is Fire Mountain. They seem to have a good selection and the better prices that I’ve found most of the time. One thing they do that I haven’t found on any other site is they do assortable pricing. They count total number of items instead of 1-3, 4-6, or whatever the quantities are. That really helps out. Just an example, I recently purchased 10 pkg’s of seed beads from a vendor. Even though they had price breaks, I had to pay the highest price for each one since I bought several different colors. It would have been nice if they could have been combined for the price breaks. Oh well, such is life. And I’m not trying to promote one vendor over another…just passing on some information. I also buy from Ebay and Etsy…for some reason I don’t feel as bad about only spending a few bucks to get free shipping. I’m curious about other suppliers that folks on this site use. Might find a new one!

K Lynn, and everyone: If you are going to purchase from FireMountainGems, hold onto your seats! There is a vendor called JetBeads.com … The owner, Jason Walz, is a “premier” buyer, in contract with FMG. He places HUGE orders everyday, and he always gets the quantity discounts. He then turns around and sells to buyers like you and me, at the HIGHEST discount FMG offers! So if you buy one item or 1000 items, you get it at the lowest price that FMG offers. Now, here’s how you do it: You go to FMG’s website and decide what you want to buy. Make a list of the ITEM NUMBERS and the quantity you want to buy. Email that list to Jason, and he will email you a quote, and ask if you want to complete that purchase. His shipping charges are slightly higher than FMG, due to the fact that FMG ships to him, and he sorts the items and then ships to us. BUT, even with the higher shipping, YOU WILL SAVE 30-50% off what that same order would cost thru FMG. I placed an order that would have been $62 (FMG) and it ended up being $28 thru JetBeads. The huge discounts only count on regular stock (not the Dutch Auctions and super sales). Go to his website www.jetbeads.com and check it out. Any questions, I’ll be glad to help you!

Just to clarify, I am not affiliated with JetBeads, nor do I profit if you buy from them. I just wanted to let you know a great way to get FMG’s products at much lower prices!

Cheryl Lojewski ...

Chris, I also use JetBeads. Great way to save money!

I feel you. I am currently in a itty-bitty town that is an hour from the closest bead/craft shop. And I hate paying the same on s+h as I pay from the item(s) I need.

Chris, thanks for the heads up. I’ll be checking them out 😀

Thanks for the tip Chris!

I do all of my stuff online now too, and I run into the same problem. I don’t know if any of you have heard of Beadaholique, but their stuff is almost always free shipping and they’re usually really fast too. It’s a great store for findings. TY for the heads up Chris! I’ve bookmarked Jetbeads.

I use Beadaholique, too… they sometimes email me promo codes to use for percentages off. Occasionally I’ll order from BeadBoxBargains, too. Although, BeadBoxBargains is mostly close-outs, so their stock is not consistent; it’s constantly changing. So I get frustrated there, if I’m looking for something specific. But I go to their website with “I wonder what they have today” in my mind.
I guess we all shop around various websites and have our favorites. But we don’t all buy our clothes in the same store either!

Madalynne Homme ...

It’s a big problem!!!! Not every site or bead store will have all the items you want. Been doing this for 13 years.

My favorites are Fusion Beads and Art Beads!

Brandswife Creations ...

I shop with one particular site for findings for resin, I put an order in yesterday, the items I wanted only cost £3.50 approx, less vat but then when I went to check out the postage was £10. I was so amazed as they are a UK supplier so its not like they are paying international costs. But hours of searching for another supplier did not give me what I was looking for. When I added other items just to check what difference it would make the P&P remained the same? So I ended up ordering more things that I don’t really NEED right now just to justify the exorbitant cost.

K. Lynn Designs ...

Been there Brandswife!

Chris Donofrio ...

I’ve also done that, ordered more things just to offset the shipping cost… It must be because the items we want are so specialized, the suppliers can get away with practically anything! It’s sad that they would do that to loyal customers.

Brandswife Creations ...

Well knock me down with a feather, I got an email from this supplier the next day saying that as I hadn’t ordered resin (which I normally do) from them they could send my order first class rather than courier, so P&P only £3.50 and would reimburse the difference! Result!!

Chris Donofrio ...

that’s a big WIN for you, Brandswife! And it sounds like they are an honorable supplier… :)
