Where to begin.. I began where everyone does I guess… an interest in all sorts of crafts at an early age. One night while watching late night TV I spied a show selling gemstones, that truly captured my fascination. I began thinking I’d just buy a couple of different stones, some amethyst, yellow quartz, ruby, sapphires. Then they had a whole parcel of mixed gemstones, naturally I had to get that also. .. and so it began. Then one day they had a show called Jewel School, (this should be familiar to some of you).. they were giving some tutorials on beading techniques and showing tools, wire, and of course beads. I was hooked, carnelians, ruby zoasitie, pearls, amethyst, quartz, turquoise, I was hooked. I started stringing, then I did some wire work , kumihimo, wire crochet, chain maille, and Art Clay Silver .. I love Art clay. although I have yet to be brave enough to put some of my gemstones in it. .. I’ve tried it all. I’m hooked. I can’t get enough beads, and I find i’m inspired by most everything I see. And the beads, golly I have a lot of beads. I enrolled in New York Institute of Art & Design recently to get a certificate in Jewelry Design. I would have loved to show you my first design, alas I didn’t take a picture of it…. here is two pictures of a necklace and matching earings that I was commissioned to make. A lot of my jewelry I donate to my Rotary organization to use as fund raisers. It has gotten me some very positive recognition and raised more than what I would actually get at retail for the item. I may price my items too low, I think. I put a table out on my driveway once a year during yardsale season and have sold several pieces that way, although they do try to haggle the price down. I have yet to do a true craft fair, I don’t have a lot of pieces for that and am worried that I won’t make enough to even cover the cost of the space rental. I’m working on my confidence. Any how that’s my journey so far, where it will take me who knows. lol.
