Building pendents a little unusual

Forum: Jewelry Making

Ive been buying gems & designing pendents since 2005, lots of offers to buy from me but I make one-of-a-kind items & they are not easy to replace per time/cost, here is another example of what I like to do with average stones, this is a columbian emerald pendent, over 50cts, in 18kt yellow gold, my design, built by John Dixon of Md. The stones compliment each other by quality/cut & the symmetry of build, flex is at a minimum for the frame & the overall vision is good at 1st glance-stevie…

Im always trying to produce the best representation of my pendents as I can, this is the latest config of this pendent, the 2nd stone from the top was replaced with a more pleasing, corrected color overall, emerald, also colombian & good quality, I think for me this completes the item-steve…

Ur silver necklace looks good, my idea would be to find some old silver pieces, beads/old castings, verified old, & put something together. Ive been building pendents for only 10 yrs but my purpose was to make unique & my design, so far so good, I have plenty of no-sayers & dis-likers & a few of please sell-me’s, & when I go to gem shows my pendents are recognized before me at times. We are having fun & making a statement. That silver piece is a good start-steve…

I get offers many times for some of the pendents I show, I also get many critiques on display reported lacking finish, or the addition of support gems to enhance the overall look of the pendent-my goal was to present the stones in the most direct visual way possible. Most of the stones shown are not seen in stores, some not even at shows because of rarity or hard to get rough. Most of the stones are the result of years of collecting/buying so I have ‘1 of a kind items’ that I cannot replace easily. From info I have on value of the emeralds as an example, the wholesale value is in the $40 to $50 thousand dollar range, for stones that are good+ quality. This is a hobby for me & a challenge that was made to me years ago about buying rare stones when they were easier to get than today, so selling is not on the table as yet-steve…
