A bunch of jewelry supply questions

Forum: Jewelry Making Materials

Hello! I am fairly new to making jewelry, and I am trying to figure out a few things. Here is a list of some questions:

  • For these end caps what size jump rings and lobster clasp would you do? I was thinking 6mm 16 gauge jump rings, and 15mm x 8mm clasps. Is there a rule of thumb on sizing these pieces for a balanced look? I don’t want too big of clasps but I want them to be easy to take on and off.
  • I have heard that oval jump rings are stronger then round, is this true? Or should I stick with round?

*What do you think of JUMPLOCK jump rings? I am looking for the strongest jump ring I can find, but still be able to put charms on them.

  • Since the end caps are oxidized silver, would I have to buy oxidized silver jump rings and clasps?

Where is a good place to buy jump rings and clasps in solid copper, sterling silver and bronze? I’m so overwhelmed with how much there is out there. I was looking at https://www.beadaholique.com any thoughts on them? Or other places? I am looking for bulk prices if possible.

Thanks so much!!
